How to be an effective leader in uncertain times

With an unprecedented economic landscape, today’s business leaders must navigate more uncertainty and volatility than ever before.

As David La Piana asserted in the “Nonprofit Strategy Revolution,” the business landscape today is best encapsulated by an acronym the U.S. military used to describe what they faced in Iraq and Afghanistan:

VUCA — volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous.

Consider the Covid-19 pandemic: the future impact of coronavirus is unknown.

A long-term reduction in transmission is contingent upon citizens adhering to safety recommendations, the potential development of “herd immunity,” or the finalization of an effective vaccine.
